The Blessed Assurance Hymn Lyrics

1. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

2. Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight.
Angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

3. Perfect submission, all is at rest.
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

The Author of the Hymn Blessed Assurance

Blessed Assurancee by Fanny J crosby

Fanny Jane Crosby was born on the 24th of March 1820 in Southeast, Putnam County, New York, to the family of Mr. John and Mrs. Mercy Crosby.

The little Fanny lost her sight after six weeks of her birth due to maltreatment from an unprofessional doctor for an eye infection.

After a few months, her father became ill and died, and her mother, at 21, became a widow.

The young Fanny was raised by her grandmother because her mother had hired herself out as a maid to take care of the family.

Fanny J Crosby Education

Indeed, the little Fanny Crosby’s grandmother was a blessing to her upbringing in a Christian way. She would read and painstakingly make the Bible teaching clear to her.

Also, her grandmother stood up as her educator and she developed a love for poetry along the line. So she started what she felt with poems at a younger age and wrote her first poem at age of eight.

Fanny Crosby was later admitted to the New York Institution for the Blind when she was fifteen. That was a life-changing experience for her and she received a good education.

She learned how to play the harp, piano, guitar, and other instruments at the school. After she finished her education at the school the school retained her as a teacher.  She taught at the school for eleven years from 1847 to 1858.

Fanny Crosby Personal Life

Fanny Crosby left the school in 1858 and married Alex Van Alstyne, who was also a blind musician and scholar in the same New York Institution for the Blind.

The two were together as a couple for forty-four years until Alex Van Alstyne’s death in 1902.

Fanny Crosby wrote thousands of hymns during her lifetime. She composed hymns like “Rescue the Perishing,” “Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross,” “Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour,” and thousands of others.

The talented blind hymnologist passed away on the 12th of February 1915, going to glory to be with her Savior. She died in Bridgeport after six months of illness, which was treated as arteriosclerosis and a cerebral hemorrhage.
