42. Best American Roots Performance
The Grammy Awards’ board of trustees approved the award in June 2014. NARAS states that the award encompasses all American Roots subgenres, including Americana, bluegrass, blues, folk, and other regional roots music. Solo artists, duos, groups, and other collaborations are eligible, but only for singles or tracks. The Best Americana Performance category joined it as a sister category in 2023.

This award recognizes the artist(s) and songwriter(s) (for new compositions) of the best traditional Christian, roots gospel, or contemporary gospel single or track. It combines the previously separate Best Gospel Song (for songwriters) and Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance (for performers) categories from the Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music field. The current category recognizes both songwriters and performers (solo/duos/groups/collaborations, etc.) for singles or tracks only. Songwriters receive a Grammy only for newly written songs. Performers only receive Grammys for cover versions of previously recorded songs.
